Hygeia (Health)

Licymnius, Fragment 769 (from Sextus Empiricus, Against the Ethicists) (trans. Campbell, Vol. Greek Lyric V) (Greek lyric C4th B.C.) :
"Bright-eyed mother, highest queen of Apollon’s golden throne, desirable, gently-laughing Hygeia (Health)."

Orphic Hymn 68 to Hygeia (trans. Taylor) (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.) :
"To Hygeia (Health), Fumigation from Manna. O much desired, prolific, general queen. Hear me, life-bearing Hygeia, of beauteous mien, mother of all; by thee diseases dire, of bliss destructive, from our life retire; and every house is flourishing and fair, if with rejoicing aspect thou art there. Each daidal art they vigorous force inspires, and all the world thy helping hand desires. Aides [Hades], life’s bane, alone resists thy will, and ever hates thy all-preserving skill. O fertile queen, from thee for ever flows to mortal life from agony repose; and men without thy all-sustaining ease find nothing useful, nothing formed to please. Without thy aid, not Aides’ self can thrive, nor man to much afflicted age arrive; for thou alone, of countenance serene, dost govern all things, universal queen. Assist thy mystics with propitious mind, and far avert disease of every kind."

I get to keep my store!

I honestly didn't know I was that worried I was going to loose it until I learned that I get to keep it. I finally talked to my landlord (isn't that an antiquated sounding title?) and we're going to extend the lease for five more years! I love the sense of security. I was really worried and I didn't know how much until it went away! Now it's like a deep breath of happy, store owning air!

Moving forward, looking back.

All my plants are gone. The owner (I think) had some 'gardeners' pull everything, and I mean everything, out and replace it with some big ugly pointy plant whose name I do not know and most likely has zero healing properties. This all happened on Saturday and I am just now getting to the point where I can talk about it. I am in mourning for my beautiful plants. I raised them from babies for more then two and a half years. The brought bees and butterflies and were wonderful smelling as well. The possible ramifications of my landlords actions are also in question. Lavender, rosemary, mallow, lemon verbena and rue. I miss my plants.

Gobble gobble?

Happy almost Thanksgiving! Isn't this potato turkey adorable? I love the teensie ears of decorative corn. We're going with the Vegetarian (Vegan this year) Whole Turkey. We've tried them all. Tofurkey, I know some people swear by it but I just don't like it. Unturkey, good but seemingly unavailable anymore. One year Josh even made a Seiten loaf from scratch, good but very time intensive. So we went with what we had last year and got the expensively delicious Vegan Whole Turkey from Whole Foods. It was on sale (yay!) so less bank breaking then we thought it would be. My favorite part it how very turkey like it is in shape. I've always been a sucker for things that look like things other then what they are. Also it's very tasty provides ample leftovers and doesn't come prestuffed with someones crazy and wrong idea of stuffing.

pillaged

Someone mutilated my plants outside the store today. They look awful, I wish I had a picture to post. It's amazing how disheartening this has been for me. I'm surprised at what things actually do upset me sometimes. I've been angry all day.

Where have all the daisies gone?

Pushing Daisies, my absolute favorite program on television will no longer be a program on television. No more charming tales or kisses through bee keeping outfits. I am sad.
